Achievement points, whether you like them or not, they’re there. For those who do love achievement points, and even those who don’t, you may have noticed there’s a variation between how easy/hard an achievement is to get.

Now, I love my Xbox 360 and I love achievement points. What I don’t love though is the variation of difficulty/points for an achievement.

The most famous example, Avatar: The Last Airbender-The Burning Earth. Who would think you could get 1000 achievement points just for 3 minutes of “button mashing”? Equally, who would think you could get 15 achievement points for “button mashing” on Guitar Hero 3 for getting an obviously difficult achievement – “through the fire and flames”?

That’s probably the most extreme example of how much of a variation there is between achievements, but also the one which brings about the writing of this article.

The games I was playing to bring this to my attention was Lost and Guitar Hero 3. Maybe I’m just bad at it, but I can’t get an achievement on Guitar Hero 3. Where as on Lost, for many achievements, it can be as simple as just looking around the small area you’re in and clicking on three items.

I hope Microsoft realise this issue soon as I’d like to see the amount of achievement points acquired matching the difficulty of the achievement throughout all games. It would mean for those who do observe achievement points, it would be a much more accurate system. I now realise that while it remains this way, achievement points are pretty useless.

I hope this made for an interesting read as this is my first article. I’d like to hear your thoughts on achievement points and the varying difficulty of them.
