Today marks the 2nd anniversary of when I almost sold my Xbox 360. I picked up the 360, to “keep me going” until Sony’s PlayStation 3 was released in the UK. The PS3, being the only next-gen console I wanted. A true Sony fangirl I guess. My partner convinced me to keep the 360 for a bit longer though, so we could try Gears of War together.
A month later I picked the Wii up after deciding I wanted that as well as the PS3 and then would sell my 360. Quite frankly, the Xbox 360 was the next-gen console I wanted the least. A friend had one and I wanted something to keep me going until the PS3 came out which is the only reason I purchased one. I wasn’t a fan of the original Xbox either. Read the rest of this entry »

Gears of War 2 is an absolutely amazing game for the Xbox 360. The campaign mode is one of the very best there is in any game. Achievement points seem easy to come by but, perhaps thats more to do with how much fun the game is, you don’t even notice how much or little effort is involved in gaining achievements.

While many look at the genre of games to determine their next game, for me, split screen co-op campaign or on-line is one of the key factors when choosing my next game. As my partner and myself are both avid gamers and love gaming with each other, as opposed to watching, it makes it an extremely important factor.

Of course, we do still play single player campaigns and multi player, but it isn’t the same. Call of Duty 4 for example, great as it is, would have been even better with at least one split screen option (apart from custom games). So naturally, Gears of War, Halo 3, Unreal Tournament 3, are games we play frequently. Read the rest of this entry »

During our extensive video tour of the New Xbox Experience, we managed to miss that an old feature has actually been removed. Specifically, we’re talking about the ability to download all Xbox Live Arcade games automatically. We’re not sure how many people actually use the feature, but for those that like to at least try every XBLA game (or those that started a weekly video series about XBLA), it was pretty handy. When MTV’s Stephen Totilo asked Microsoft’s John Schappert about the removal of the feature, Schappert replied, “You actually use that?”
While the reason why the feature has gone missing remains a mystery, Totilo was told “it may come back in a future release.” We’ll just have to wait an see. Get your own hands on the otherwise feature-packed NXE when it debuts next month.

Writing this post, we were fully ready to laugh heartily at the “story” of Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe. We were ready to lambast the cheesiness of it. And yet, strangely, we find ourselves reveling in it. The idea that the universes of Mortal Kombat and DC are merging together seems appropriate enough, especially given the comic book context. The explanation that Superman can be hurt by magic and, thus, Scorpion, seems plausible enough. In fact, forget the cheese, forget the cliches, the shear amount of fanboy minutia being flung about is all that really matters. Check out the trailer above and tell us what you make of it.

Here’s one for you. Two parrots playing the voice controlled Tom Clancy’s EndWar. Really, need we say more?
No joke, the official EndWar video you see above features two talking birds named Walter and Polly who are sitting on a custom apparatus and talking into Xbox Live headsets while their “owner” instructs them on tactical EndWar maneuvers. We’re not sure what to make of the video, but it did get us thinking. What other animals could be taught to play EndWar? We have a cat that can sorta meow the alphabet. His name is Tubby.

Just when our friends in Europe thought they were being left out (yet again) of the Rock Band 2 fun, EA just announced that the sequel to the original multi-instrument music platform will be releasing this November.
Rock Band 2 - the standalone game - will release to Europe on November 14th and a week later in the UK on November 21st. Its release will be a timed exclusive for the Xbox 360, just as it was in the U.S. If you’re looking to grab a Rock Band 2 bundle then you’ll have to wait a bit longer, because it’ll be out “beginning in December.” Wondering about pricing? Well, the standalone disc will retail for 49.99 GBP or 69.99 EUR and the December releasing bundle’s price is still shrouded in mystery. Got it? Good!
Congrats Europe, you can haz Rock Band 2!
