Call of Duty: Black Ops. And that’s about all we know.

Activision has officially named the next title in the lucrative Call of Duty series. Previously known as Call of Duty 7, the title is now confirmed as Call of Duty: Black Ops. The game is being developed by Santa Monica-based studio Treyarch, responsible for several previous instalments in the military first-person shooter series, including Call of Duty: World at War and Call of Duty 3.

The press announcement provides little extra information, simply promising that Black Ops will, “take players behind enemy lines in an entirely new chapter in the groundbreaking and record-setting, No. 1 first-person action series of all-time.”

For the last few months, news sites have been rife with rumours that the game would be set in Vietnam – and the title announcement does not necessarily contradict that. As the Official Xbox Magazine reported, Treyarch put out a casting call in LA earlier this year, looking for an actor to play one ‘Frank Barnes’, a WW2 veteran and member of the Studies and Observations Group, a black ops unit active during the Vietnam war.

Mass Effect in my opinion was a great game, before it I wasn’t really a RPG guy, i found them fun to begin with, but just lost interest. This game changed that around and after completing it I moved on to GTA and other RPG game I had. So here is my thoughts on the sequel Mass Effect 2. Yes thats it, no added tag line that most games use to sell more copies by adding a mysterious few words which seem to drag people in. I haven’t finished the game yet so this isnt really a proper review more a rambling of things I like and stuff! You play as Sheppard again hooray! You are told that you die and get brought back to life by a seemingly ok corporation, but you soon get told that they are bad. Anyway, you get woken up before you should have done leaving scars on your face, probably trying to add to his heroic status. Below I am listing a few things different from the first game, oops I dont really remember much, but here goes.

You get the Normandy back and you are in command.

You get new people to follow you the only remaining ones are Garrus & Tali.

There is no real inventory, which some hardcore rpg fans will not like.

You can scan planets for resources and send probes to collect it.

There are still biotic powers.

The enemies seem to be more annoying and hard to kill.

The damage system drives me crazy the red scar tissue effect when taking damage is awful and looks comic like.

You can gain loyalty from the members of the team by doing personal missions for them.

You can still have a little romance!

So above are a few things that I can remember from the game, one of the main characters is played by Yvonne Strahovski who is also in Chuck on NBC which I thought was quite cool. The download content gives you some armour, a chance to find the old Normandy crash site and 2 more characters. This probably wont be enough to make you buy it so check these links out!

With the release of a new Call of Duty game comes new hopes of new gameplay, new modes, maps and machine guns. Don’t get me wrong I am a big fan of the CoD games, but when it comes to co-op gameplay they always seem to let us down. I mainly play co-op I see gaming as something you do with friends either online or on the chair next to you. CoD 6 MW 2 does have a co-op mode, but its not the full campaign its consists of scenarios and segments of missions.

The way things are going I don’t expect to see a full co-op CoD game any time soon, it is like the digital camera mobile phones, they had the technology years ago, but each year they bring out an higher number of megapixels.

I have been pointing out all the bad things about the CoD games, but I am really just being picky. CoD6 is a great game and with the record sales (7 million in the first day) it has achieved I am sure the multiplayer will keep us entertained for a several months.

If you are like me and love co-op here is a breakdown of the features it has and the ones I wish it had.

- Co-op mini missions
- No co-op campaign
- No 2-player Xbox Live
- No widescreen co-op play (like the smaller screens of WaW)

Yes the ad man has invaded another product and is filling their boots at our expense. Adverts have been appearing in the 360 dashboard. The adverts may be game related, but when ‘Compare the Meerkat’ comes on we start to get worried. Advertising in games has been a hot topic over the last few years and as the video game industry grows to epic levels more of this is feared. The video below shows the ad.

So you can skip past the ad in seconds, but many people argue that they pay for a service and then recieve ads. Do they not realise they pay for cable tv filled with ads? Anyway like most things game related the majority will still continue and the fanboys will be outraged for a day and then continue.

Some YouTube quotes:

What complete and total s***! I don’t pay microsoft $50/year to download crap commercials on my? XBox. If it becomes intrusive I’ll drop it!

Wow, it takes one second to press right on the d pad and skip? past it. Over reacting much?

This was already in place… it’s always been on that second slide? on that section… you are not forced to watch it.. just bypass it. who the f*** cares.

Is this the most popular game mode on almost all action/military games? Shooting up aliens and Nazis has always been fun, but its ten times better with a mate sitting next to you. Some of the great co-op games include Halo, Conflict Desert Storm and Gears of War. These games have the quality and the co-op. Which some games with both seem to lack, possibly its an either or scenario. Where you can have great game play or co-op never both. Left 4 Dead showed us that 4 player could be great, even if you only had 3 gamers the comps could be a useful ally.

The beloved co-op!

If everyone is raving about it why are the game developers still leaving out any sort of co-op play? Recently Brothers in Arms : Hells Highway has left this out. The developers of Earth Defense Force 2017 got it right, a simple game that was boosted into the good books after I found the 50+ co-op missions.

Some games have co-op online play, this is good if you have xbox live, but if you dont it can be devastating when you find out that your new game is only single player. There is a list of 360 games made with co-op capability found here. Online co-op can be great, the CoD3 version had the right idea but, the game play was too shabby to be called a great game.

Hopefully more games will make co-op missions available. Coming soon: Halo 3: ODST, Borderlands and Left 4 Dead 2.

Momma Bear over at GamerStyle has found a site that gives your Xbox 360 it’s very own blog.

You can give your 360 it’s own blog by signing up at 360voice, once registered with your GamerTag, it will take two days for the site to gather information from your Xbox. Just signed up myself but I’ll have to wait the couple of days to see what my xbox says.

So what is 360voice? 360voice is a “leading online community for the Xbox 360 with a twist. Using unique technology, the data from your Xbox Live gamercard is transformed from a snapshot into a rich history of your gaming, told in blog format from the perspective of your Xbox. This allows for conversations around specific daily achievements and events like gamer score increases and your most played games. In addition to the blog content, users can interact by leaving comments, compete in gamer score challenges, and gather badges for various site and cross-game accomplishments.”

Momma Bear’s Xbox has already blogged, and had an interesting post from when it was in repair for RROD.
